FAQS

Lumina Jewelers - FAQs

Q: Are all your products handcrafted?

A: Without a doubt! Every piece of our jewelry is crafted by artisans with 10+ years of hands-on experience—no mass-produced shortcuts. Even if two pieces share the same design, you’ll notice subtle, unique details (like slight variations in gem placement or metal finishing) that come from handwork. Plus, since we use mostly natural pearls and irregularly shaped gemstones, every Lumina piece becomes a one-of-a-kind treasure—no duplicates.

Q: Are your pearls natural?

A: Yes—“Natural and Unique” is one of our core brand values, so we never use artificial plastic pearls. While plastic pearls may be perfectly round and overly bright, they lack the organic charm and individuality that make jewelry meaningful. Our natural pearls carry subtle variations in shape, luster, and surface texture—these are not flaws, but marks of their authenticity, ensuring your piece never feels like a generic, assembly-line item.

Q: What materials are your jewelry made of?

A: We craft every piece with premium, carefully selected materials to balance beauty and durability. Our core base is high-quality sterling silver (known for its timeless shine and wearability), and our collections are enhanced with a curated range of accents: lustrous freshwater pearls, semi-precious stones like onyx and agate, and sparkling zircon stones—all chosen to elevate your everyday or special-occasion look.

Q: What’s the difference between gold plated and gold vermeil in your jewelry?

A: All our gold-toned pieces use 18k gold vermeil (pronounced “ver-may”)—a superior choice for longevity and quality, unlike standard gold plating:

  • Gold plating: A very thin layer of gold bonded to a base metal (often low-grade), which can wear off quickly with regular use.
  • 18k gold vermeil: A luxury standard requiring a minimum 2.5-micron thick layer of 18k gold plated onto a sterling silver base. This thicker gold layer boosts durability, resists fading, and extends the life of your jewelry—making it the best plating option for silver.

Q: Is there a color difference between gold plated and gold vermeil jewelry?

A: At first glance, both can have a similar gold hue (since they’re surface-finished with gold). But gold vermeil often has a warmer, richer tone: Its thicker 18k gold layer (paired with the sterling silver base) creates a deeper, more radiant color—unlike thinner gold plating, which may look lighter or uneven over time. The exact shade can also vary slightly by gold purity, but vermeil’s depth is consistently more luxurious.

Q: Can I wear your jewelry in water?

A: Our sterling silver jewelry can handle occasional, brief water exposure (e.g., a quick hand wash) without major harm—it’s durable by nature. However, for long-term care:

  • Avoid prolonged contact with water, especially chlorine (swimming pools) or saltwater (oceans)—these speed up tarnishing and wear.
  • If you want jewelry for frequent water use (e.g., beach days, workouts), we recommend solid gold pieces (where available)—they’re fully resistant to tarnish and water damage.

Q: Does your jewelry tarnish?

A: Like all sterling silver, our pieces may tarnish over time—that’s a natural reaction to air, moisture, or oils (not a sign of poor quality). The good news? With simple care, you can keep them shining for years:

  • Regular gentle cleaning (with a silver polishing cloth) and proper storage (in a dry, airtight pouch) will slow tarnishing and maintain their brilliance.

Q: Is your jewelry hypoallergenic?

A: Yes—our jewelry is nickel-free, so it’s safe for nearly all skin types. Nickel is the top cause of jewelry-related allergies (used by many brands to cut costs and boost luster), but we exclude it entirely. The only exception: an extremely rare allergy to silver itself (far less common than nickel sensitivity). Rest easy—your skin will thank you.

Q: How long will it take for my order to ship?

A: We work to get your jewelry to you as soon as possible, while keeping our handcrafted quality:

  • Orders are typically processed and confirmed within 1–3 business days.
  • Since most pieces require 1–2 business days of handcrafting (to ensure every detail is perfect), we usually ship within 2 days after order confirmation.
  • During peak seasons (e.g., Christmas, Black Friday), shipping may be slightly delayed due to higher order volume—we appreciate your patience as we prioritize crafting each piece with care.

Q: How Do I Cancel An Order?

A: We are only able to cancel orders within the first 12 hours after the order is placed. After that the order has most likely been processed and is preparing for shipment or has been shipped. Once this takes effect, it's out of our hands. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause, but we pride ourselves on prompt service and this includes getting your orders out as fast as possible.
